Class of 2020 Spotlight: Brooklynn Kinney

Meet Miss Brooklynn Kinney, she will graduate from Cypress Ridge High School in Cypress, Texas. After graduation, she will further her education at Stephen F. Austin State University this fall.

Tell me about yourself?

I go to Cypress Ranch High school, and I participated in theater my first year and later decided to become a mentor for freshman students to help them figure out their way through the school. I was apart of my school’s stampede group and we helped lead cheers and dances during football season, which was one of the most fun things about my senior year. I’m always hanging out with my friends and finding fun little things to around my area.

What’s next for you after graduation?

After I graduate, I plan on studying Criminal Justice at SFA to become a detective or an FBI negotiator.

How have you been passing the time in quarantine?

To pass the time during quarantine, I’ve been taking a lot of rides and doing a lot of outdoor activities with a couple of people.

Do you have any new hobbies or brushing up on some old ones?

I’ve been playing basketball a lot and riding around on my ripstick to pass some time, and I’ve picked up journaling just to help with the stress of everything going on.

How do you like E-learning?

This e-learning thing was a blessing in disguise because I’ve never been able to effortlessly have all A’s, so that was a bonus, but I do miss being in a classroom and being able to ask my teachers questions and get an immediate response.

How would you like your school to honor the class of 2020?

To honor the class of 2020 I would like to do the best that it can to make sure we don’t feel like we missed out on too much of our senior experience.

My Mommy is My Shero!

I hope this blog post finds you all well and safe from the craziness surrounding us.  My initial thought was this will be under wraps soon and we can get back to some type of normalcy.  Unfortunately at this time, I can not see the light at the end of this tunnel, but hopefully, this post at least warms your heart and shows you what is most important…our loved ones.  I am certainly enjoying the little moments and laughter amongst me and my family.  Take care and I pray to see you all soon.  Sending you one big virtual hug and well wishes for your Mother’s Day.

Hi!  My name is Marley and this is my beautiful mommy, La’Korra.  I am so proud to be her daughter because I know she will always be there for me when I fall and she will always protect me if I have trouble coming my way.

What is something that you have learned from your mommy?

I remember when I got my first pair of rollerblades and I wanted to try them on right away.  As soon as I got outside I fell and skinned my knee, but my mommy cleaned the cut and told me that, “practice makes perfect.”  I learned at that moment that with hard work I can accomplish anything, and if I don’t succeed my mom will still be in my corner cheering me on.
