My Mommy is My Shero!

I hope this blog post finds you all well and safe from the craziness surrounding us.  My initial thought was this will be under wraps soon and we can get back to some type of normalcy.  Unfortunately at this time, I can not see the light at the end of this tunnel, but hopefully, this post at least warms your heart and shows you what is most important…our loved ones.  I am certainly enjoying the little moments and laughter amongst me and my family.  Take care and I pray to see you all soon.  Sending you one big virtual hug and well wishes for your Mother’s Day.

Hi!  My name is Marley and this is my beautiful mommy, La’Korra.  I am so proud to be her daughter because I know she will always be there for me when I fall and she will always protect me if I have trouble coming my way.

What is something that you have learned from your mommy?

I remember when I got my first pair of rollerblades and I wanted to try them on right away.  As soon as I got outside I fell and skinned my knee, but my mommy cleaned the cut and told me that, “practice makes perfect.”  I learned at that moment that with hard work I can accomplish anything, and if I don’t succeed my mom will still be in my corner cheering me on.

Mommy + Daddy Maternity Session

My cousin came to visit the family in Houston. I’ve been photographing this beauty since I was a kid with her Polaroid camera. I’ve watched her family grow over the years, and now she’s expecting a beautiful baby girl. Enjoy this melanin popping, glowing mommy and daddy. We also got a photo of daddy and his twin brother, who happens live in the Houston area as well. It was a blessing to photograph your bump.

Xoxo,

Dej

Thank you…

Thank you to all these beautiful families for making my holiday season a success.  This season allowed me to bless others with memories they can cherish for years to come.  Thank you for choosing CCP.

xoxo,

DC

Happy Mother’s Day Contest Winner!

I love hearing about other people and their family.  I met DeAna a few years ago when our daughter’s cheered together at church.  When I set out with this contest I didn’t expect to hear this heart felt story about her mom, and the love she bestowed upon her all those years ago.  Unfortunately her mom couldn’t make the trip from San Antonio to get photographed, so of course we improvised and photographed an image of her, her daughter, DeAna and two of her beautiful children.     IMG_9838   What makes your mom so special?    “She is a gift from God to me! I was adopted when I was five days old. I developed a special bond with my mom right away. She taught me that it is more important to have inner beauty than a pretty face.  She would comfort me when I cried, held my head when I was sick, and taught me to love The Lord. I strive each day to be as selfless and caring as my mom continues to be to this day. My day is not complete unless I have at least one conversation with her! This verse sums it all up! Every time I say your name in prayer—which is practically all the time—I thank God for you, the God I worship with my whole life in the tradition of my ancestors. I miss you a lot, especially when I remember that last tearful good-bye, and I look forward to a joy-packed reunion. (2 Timothy 1:3, 4 MSG)”   IMG_9841-webMother's Day Winner   DeAna had no clue, but I asked her kids the same question about her.  They said some of the same things.  That’s proof that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.   “She’s nice, and beautiful, a wonderful mom, she’s caring, loving, she teaches me about the Lord, and I love going to the mall with her.” -Amber “She makes all our food all by herself every day.  She’s very caring.  She uses all her money to pay for us to go to private school.  Sometimes we go to the movies, and I like that the best.  She teaches me to work hard and to do it well. ” -Zach IMG_9867 copy

Mommy, Mom, Mother

I started my Mother’s Day Contest, and came up with this idea to honor some pretty awesome mothers for the next 9 days.

I asked each of their children to tell me what makes their mom so special?

Image

Nicole:“Unconditional love.  My mom also gives the biggest hugs.  She laughs at all of my dumb jokes, she must get them more than I do cause she will just be laughing away, and last but not least her smile, she has such a sweet smile.”

Jennifer:“What makes my mom special, for starters she gave birth to two amazing girls ;).  She never fails to be the hero I need.  She is forever the shoulder I can lean on.  She nags and gets upset with me only because she cares.  She is the mother that always looks out, and I know I give her a hard time, and cause problems, but that’s because I am a teenager and no matter what she’s been there for me.  I’m so blessed to have a mother like her, and I’m sorry for all the stupid things I may get into in the future.

I just pray I never loose her.  She’s everything a girl needs in a mother and more.  I love you mom and don’t you forget it.  Have a wonderful Mother’s Day!”

Happy Mother’s Day Ana!

I was cruising around on the Facebook streets and came upon a post about something sweet this young lady left for her mom.  It was a flip book with special things written about her mom.  This was total confirmation for what I wanted to do for Mother’s Day this year.  Meet Sonja & Cori.  Sonja is a teacher at Langham Creek High School.  Teaching takes a special kind of heart all by itself, but I appreciate what you are doing for the teens at your school.  xoxo.

Mother's Day

Cori:

Reasons Why…

“I love you because no one can cook a meal like you, I love you because you taught me to love myself, I love you because you have somewhat of a sense of humor, I love you because of your heart, God blessed you with a heart of gold…you are loved, I love you because you do not judge…it doesn’t matter what I may have done or say you still see me the same, I love you because you make a way out of no way, and I love you because you keep your head held high.”

Mother's Day

Happy Mother’s Day Sonja!

The next mom is also a teacher during the day, a dance instructor in the evening and super mom all day long.  I met this amazing woman by accident, or on God’s purpose when her oldest daughter was almost two.  I have watched her family grow these past 5 years.  Our relationship initially started by me making  tutus for her dance class, and it grew into me photographing her dance studio, Designed 2 Dance , and growing family.  She is a great inspiration to the Houston dance community.  She is not only the mother of her three beautiful children, but also every girl who comes through the dance studio doors.  Now without further adieu meet Ms. Tracee…

You know you are serious about your craft if you can do this 8 months pregnant.

“Mommie, Mommie, Mommie!”

-Thanks Cliff for your help with this post!

The next three mothers have had a direct impact on me personally.  They are my older sisters.  I have always looked up to them, and as a child I learned that they would protect me from any harm, they looked out for my best interest, and most importantly I learned to be a mother before I had my own children by watching them. Happy Mother’s Day Inez, Tammy & Jennifer I love you all.

Ashley (age 25):
“My mother inspires me because at a young age she had children, but didn’t allow that to keep her dreams stagnant.  She worked hard to provide for us while putting herself through college and chasing her dreams.  This inspires me daily.  I love you mom.

Jasmine (age 23):
“My mother is special to me because she’s fearless, caring, loving and strong.  She goes above and beyond always putting the needs of others before her own.  In my time of need she’s always there even if it is just to listen.”

Jason (age 18):
“She gets stuff done when she puts her mind to it.”

Alexa (age 12):
“My mom is like a button, she holds things together.”

Jada (age 8):
“She’s my mom and she takes care of me.”

Elijah (age 3):
“I love my mom.”

Tammy

Charles (her husband):
“Her willingness to constantly put the needs of her family above her own.”

Tiara (age 20):
“My mother is special to me because she continues to show love, compassion, and put others first regardless of her own situation.  It’s never hard to tell when she truly cares about you.”

T’Nia (age 15):
“My mother is important to me because she does her absolute best to provide for me and my sisters, and to give us what she didn’t have at our age.  She is always there to take care of her family and puts everyone’s needs before her own.  My mom makes me laugh every day.  She brightens even the darkest of days.  Although she has made many mistakes in the past she has been a great role model to me.”

Tasia (age 12):
“My mommy is the best thing in my life I could ever have.  She tells me how much she loves and cares for me each and every day.  Their would be some days she was sad and not feeling very well and it made me sad.  Then there would be days when she is full of energy and the sunshine sparkled in her eyes, and it made me happy.  Although sometimes we may bicker and disagree, all I know is how much I love my mommy and she loves me.”

From your son, Nathan:

“When you open yourself up emotionally, you become vulnerable on so many levels, but when it comes to your mother most people are not afraid to show that emotion. My mother is one of the toughest people I know, she birthed me into this world, alone with no help from my father. I know that had to be hard for her to raise a child on her own, knowing that the father of her child would not be there in any shape or form. She held it together, and gave me the love and attention that a young child needs. Working late night at Taco Bell and sending her people over to bring me dinner and check on me. She wanted more, and took some computer classes, that landed her a corporate job. This job moved us to Phoenix, AZ and it was in AZ that times got some of the toughest and I was old enough to understand. I remember one time, we had just got home from grocery shopping. She told me that we only had about ten dollars left, and right at that moment a friend of mine came knocking on the window asking me to go with him to an ice cream shop. I was about to tell him no, but my mom intervened and told me to go with him. I was in shock, this was our last little bit of money and she was letting me spend it. I said no, but she insisted that I go with my friend. She probably does not remember that moment because it was nothing to her to sacrifice for me, but I can never forget what she went thru to make sure that I was provided for. About two and a half years after arriving in Arizona, we moved back to Houston to take care of my Grandma. She was sick and my mom was going to take care of her. On the day my Grandmother died was the first day I saw my mom cry, and it shocked me so much that all the emotions that I was feeling, went away. That was her being vulnerable, and she did not show that side to me, until I was 16. When I got into some trouble at Eisenhower, my mom transferred me to Spring Woods and I proceeded to act out. It was then she gave me an ultimatum, finish school or get out. This changed my life because, it made me think about my life and where I was heading, so I did get out and joined the Navy. I tell these stories because thru all this, the rock in my life has been my mom. It is because of her I am the man I am today, I am not perfect, but I am a man and I love her dearly. These are the reasons I love you mom, you are selfless, caring, and strong. I know you are not going to cry when reading this, but I know your heart will.”

“I almost didn’t become your daughter-in-law if I hadn’t come to meet your thirteen years ago.  The mama’s boy would’ve sent me on my way if I hadn’t come to meet the most important woman in his life, his mama!  I’m sure it was hard to make room in your heart for a crazy girl from Virginia, but I’m certainly glad you did.  I love spending time with you and doing mother/daughter things like shopping, doing hair and getting our nails done, even if I do take your nail polish.  🙂 I’m not only thankful to call you my mother-in-law, I’m blessed to have you as a friend.  (I know get a life. lol)”
-Love, Dej

“Grandma is always nice to us, she spends time with us, we like playing games with her and going to church.  She’s giving, in which we say thank you.  She makes us laugh all the time. Every time we see her we give her a hug and a kiss.  We love you because you’re the perfect grandma we’ve ever had.”

“Mom you are special to me because I can always turn to you for prayer and an encouraging word.  You have become a wonderful God fearing woman that I am proud to call my Mom! “
-Love, Tammy

Mom, You are always here for me and are a phone call away no matter if it is day or night. You have always tried to help me if you can. I am glad we have grown closer and that I can tell you just about anything. You just being here gives me courage and strength to run after my dreams! Thank you for always praying for me and loving me unconditionally! May your Mother’s Day be amazing just like you! I am glad you are my mom!”
-Love, Jenn

“Mom, I often ask myself would I have the strength to ever walk in your shoes?  Would I make it through it all, and still hold my head up high?  I remember at the age of three asking after dad died would I ever have another daddy, and if my new daddy could be Michael Jackson.  Well I never got another physical dad, but instead you taught all five of us about the best one of all, Jesus.  You taught  us to look to Him for guidance & to praise Him through the good and the bad.  I admire your strength, your willingness to help those who are down and out, and most of all your love and relationship with God.  I hope you have an amazing Mother’s Day! xoxo.’
