Royalty

I’ve been photographing this family for years now, and I promise they never disappoint. She puts so much thought and effort into the process, and I always get excited when she calls because of this reason.

What was your inspiration of this photo session?

The sun is a light and life giving force. Anything the sunlight touches is granted permission to become a elevated expression of itself. Just as the moon becomes illuminated and shines, it does so in it’s own brilliance from the light the sun has provided it with. My inspiration was my light and life giving relationship as a mother towards my son and it’s correlation to the sun and all living things.

How do you always come up with such a dope wardrobe and where do you shop?
I spend a lot of time meditating. Sometimes I quiet my mind to envision what I want to look like in my photos. Once I see it in my mind, I begin to search for the closest thing to it. Sometimes it just falls in my lap so to speak. Amazon, Etsy, Pinterest and fabric stores are great “go to’s”.

What was your favorite element/prop for your session?
My favorite prop was the sun and moon crystal balls. In my opinion, it made the message I was trying to convey make sense.

Black King and Queen Mother

How did you convince your teenage son/king to join in on this?
He was excited from the moment I asked him to join me. He had never done a artistic photo session before. He was thrilled to show off his muscles and try something new.

Do you have a background in fashion?
Yes I do. I modeled for Sears as a preteen. I was a runway model for fashion and hair shows in Illinois. I currently create my own print projects to express myself artistically.

Black Queen

Anything else you’d like to share?
When you find the courage to be yourself in all authenticity, you also empower others to do the same. I found my courage.
